Opening Ceremony: 3rd Kwame Nkrumah Festival

Prof Esi Sutherland-Addy discussed the cultural, political, and pedagogic possibilities and power of festivals, and how they offer Africans spaces of cultural liberation and popular education. She theorized that festivals enable resistance to Western cultural hegemony and economic exploitation, educating and influencing new generations to develop and advance Pan-African public culture and liberatory values.
